Build Knowledge
The book says that maybe Anzac Ted looks this way is because he has had "one or two encounters with a foe".
What does the word 'FOE' mean?
A ‘foe’ is another word for an enemy, it is the opposite of a friend.
Choose which of these emojis might best show the face of a friend and which might show the face of a foe.

Why is Anzac Ted so worn out and dirty?
Think of 3 things that may have happened to him to make him so tatty.

Once you have finished you may like to add more detail - or maybe even draw his uniform?

Be Creative
You can choose to do one or more of these activities to explore Anzac Ted further:
HEROES:
Talk to a grown up about why the Anzacs were thought of as heroes. What do you think makes someone a hero? Talk about one of your heroes. Why is this person your hero? (If you can – write down some information about your hero).
During the war, medals were given out to people for being very brave during a scary time. You might like to design a medal for a solider or maybe you would like to make one for yourself –
for a time that you have been brave.

STAMPS
The ANZAC soldiers first fought in a faraway country called Turkey in 1915. There were no phones or internet access, so in order to hear from home, the soldiers had to talk to their loved ones through handwritten letters – and these letters would sometimes take months to arrive back in Australia. Design a stamp of Anzac Ted that could have been stuck on one of these letters.

THANK YOU CARD
Perhaps you could make a thank you card for a soldier - either one of the soldiers who fought many years ago - or to one who is helping to keep our country safe today.
Think about the things you would thank them for.
